The painting above was done by one of the finest Artist of the history- Vincent Van Gogh. The moment you see it, you'll fall in love with the oil canvas painting.His "Starry Night" represents all those stories behind his each drop of ink and brushstrokes. It is considered one of the finest art of all times in the history and is preserved in Museum of Modern Art. The painting, the museum writes on its web site, "is a symbolic landscape full of movement, energy, and light. The quietness of the village contrasts with the swirling energy of the sky.... Van Gogh’s impasto technique, or thickly applied colors, creates a rhythmic effect—the picture seems to constantly move in its frame."The Dutch impressionist created this masterpiece in June,1899 at Saint-Paul-de-Mausole. He was considered as of the "craziest" artist as he cut-off his own ear. Yes indeed he did. He was that crazy. He then plummeted in his life, causing depression in his later life. Vincent Van Gogh was a self-taught artist and created tons of painting that can be described as "world-class".

The praise of this eternal masterpiece is still done today. But the science behind those oil strokes are not considered much keeping the popularity of the canvas on level with it. As much beauty this art piece holds,he left behind pieces of astounding clues on mysterious nature of science. So, ,what makes the painting so breathtakingly beautiful and stunning and what has Maths to do with anything with "Starry Night"?

As difficult as turbulence is to understand mathematically, we can use art to depict the way it looks.

Andrey Kolmogorov, Russian Mathematician who expanded the mathematical understanding of turbulence when he proposed the energy in a turbulent fluid at length R varies in five-thirds of power of R. As unknown it may sound, the idea behind turbulence still remains a mystery to Physicists around the world. It is one of the unsolved problems in Physics. From minute details they observed, they discovered that there is a distinct pattern of turbulent fluid structures close to Kolmogorov's equation hidden in Starry Night.


What makes me so much surprised is that even in that depressed time Van Gogh was able to decipher one of the most mysterious forces of nature in a very artistic way. He was able to express his beauty, his craziness, his illness and creative imagination on that canvas and to unite his unique mind’s eye with the deepest mysteries of movement, fluid and light., which is something so ecstatic.
